A women who is a crypto trader in Hong Kong was robed for $450k

In Hong Kong, a woman was robbed for 3.5 million Hong Kong dollars ($450,000). The robbers posed as cryptocurrency buyers and stole this much amount from the women.

The South China Morning Post reported that police are conducting a manhunt for the robbers on Tuesday. The group of robbers had done this with proper planning, one of them had completed multiple transactions with the victim, to win her trust, the police said.

The investigations revealed there were three previous deals ranging between $77,000 and $90,000.
On the day of the robbery, the other members of the gang with knives rushed to the scene as soon as their other members received the Tether tokens in exchange for the $450,000 payment. Then they locked the woman in the office where the deal took place but before that, they had already snatched her iPhone and the $450,000.

Reportedly, the woman had a second phone by that she informed her husband and then the husband informed the police. And the victim’s uncle who has accompanied her to the meeting place has seen the men fleeing from the place.

Many victims get hurt or even die in cases of robbery of cryptocurrency, but luckily, this woman was unhurt.
In some cases like in 2019, a Norwegian Bitcoin billionaire had to jump from his second-floor balcony to escape armed burglars. Then in 2020, Singaporean Mark Cheng was kidnapped and tortured for a $740,000 ransom in BTC.

Almost the same case happened early this month also, where the victim had lost $386,000 to the robbers.
In Hongkong crypto-related robbery is increasing. According to SCMP, the city’s police recorded 242 robbery cases relating to cryptocurrencies in 2020, a 103% increase from the figure recorded in 2019.

Last August, police had arrested three men in the relation to stealing bitcoins from the city’s ATM.
